Birney Construction Update

Work is underway on a $39M modernization of Alice Birney Elementary through 2029. The administration building will be demolished; four kindergarten classrooms, rebuilt playgrounds, and new parking added. Interim modular offices and a new Meade Avenue entrance will serve visitors. Parts of the field, parking, and traffic routes are altered.

Respect the Cone Zone: Birney Elementary’s Appeal for Community-Wide Support

Birney Elementary has launched its new closed-campus policy to improve student safety, creating the “cone zone” along Campus Avenue for smoother, safer drop-offs. The school and Beekeeper Alliance are asking the community to help—by driving carefully, avoiding congestion, and volunteering an hour to keep UH’s youngest pedestrians safe.

Fall Track & Field 2025 at Roosevelt Middle School

Roosevelt Middle School student-athletes wrapped up another exciting fall season in San Diego Unified’s free athletic program. Competing in basketball and track & field, students built teamwork, independence, and confidence under the guidance of Coach Tais Marinho-Gomez, a former UCSD track standout. The program continues to grow, giving every student a chance to shine.
