Surveys earlier this year indicated a strong desire for UHCA to provide more information about land use, board member (and Uptown Community Planning Group board member) Bill Ellig put together an extensive presentation on how San Diego land use and zoning regulations have evolved and how they apply to UH. The session was highly interactive with a lot of audience Q&A. Bill’s full presentation— video and slides—are here.

In addition to the regular meeting recapping community news, Lauren Doucette and the UH Garden Club. Lauren covered a vast amount of information to guide folks on how to start growing their own food from seed, including tips on starting, fertilizing, pest control, and more. Attendees were able to participate in the seed swap and there were several lucky winners of cool gardening tools!

Marc Johnson, Kristin Harms, and Bill Ellig provided a comprehensive history of the current status of the Ed Center (aka the Brucker site), and encouraged everyone to complete the survey on the development plan at www. uhsd.org/edcenter and attend the upcoming meeting at Birney Elementary on April 28.

Our speaker for the evening was Officer Adamek who provided insights on the prioritization of calls to SDPD, along with vehicle habitation and homelessness issues. Officer Adamek will continue to work with the UH Zone Watch Coordinators and maintain availability for Crime Watch before our monthly meetings.

The rain tempered turn-out for our March meeting, but nearly 20 folks braved the wet weather to hear updates about how we are re-working Zone Watch to make it more responsive and focused. After UHCA updates, SDFD representatives talked about fire safety and what we can do to be more prepared and handle potential wildfires in our neighborhood. Apologies for not having the Zoom link posted sooner, we will keep that at the top of our web page moving forward (it will always be the same).

40+ people attended in person with another 10+ via the Zoom simulcast. Officers Harris and Adamek kicked off the CrimeWatch section, followed by UHCA updates and a presentation about the early history of UH by University Heights Historical Society President Kristin Harms. This meeting was simulcast on Zoom and recorded (bear with us as we work to improve the process, this is our first time doing this in a few years and we know we have some kinks to work out!).
