Happenings at Roosevelt: Library Fundraising, Student-Led Conferences, and IB Fest

Library

The library at Roosevelt International Middle School is open only four days per week during lunch hours. While classes are in session, teachers can also reserve the library for their students to read and work. A staffed library empowers students to access books, a supportive learning space, and additional educational resources — all of which drives student curiosity and growth.

RooFriends pays for half of the costs to operate the library, or $40,000 to fund two days per week of library staff and operations. The cost for next year is up 25%.

On March 2, 2026, which was “Read Across America Day,” RooFriends launched its annual giving campaign to fundraise support for the operation of the library at Roosevelt. The community raised over $5,700. Donate to the campaign for the library at www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/keep-roosevelt-reading-this-annual-giving-day

Student-Led Teacher Conferences

In the fall and spring, Roosevelt students lead their own individual conferences for their parents to connect with students’ learning and to meet students’ teachers. Students prepare slides that highlight the academic work they completed in each class. Students also present their grades, identify academic accomplishments, and describe new goals to pursue during the rest of the year. Teachers participate by introducing themselves to the parents, who are seated at different classroom tables during the 30-minute conferences. The conferences are limited to 10 to 12 students, which allows time for teachers to speak with each family.

IB Fest — April 2026

On April 16, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., Roosevelt will host its annual IB Fest. The event highlights the International Baccalaureate curriculum and celebrates academic work completed by students. The eighth grade students will present their community projects and proudly showcase what they learned. Students will perform music and dance ensembles. There will be food and drinks for sale. The schoolwide showcase is full of joyful energy.
