Change- and What Doesn’t
Change is everywhere in University Heights, from new businesses on Park Boulevard to a growing UHCA board, business group, and relaunched UH Arts Association. UHCA President Marc Johnson reflects on what hasn’t changed: a real sense of community that keeps neighbors coming back. He invites everyone to volunteer or simply say hello at an upcoming event.
The Volunteers Behind Everything You Notice
Every ask we make eventually finds the right person. UHCA President Marc Johnson welcomes new volunteer coordinator James Lew, thanks the board and team leads who keep University Heights running, and bids a fond farewell to Lauren Doucette as she moves to Normal Heights — opening a search for a new events leader.
Partnerships: How UH Gets Big Things Done
University Heights Community Association builds impact through partnerships—with businesses, the City, nonprofits, and members. Recent collaborations include a challenge grant for refurbishing the UH Trolley Sign and joint Summer Concerts with UHCDC. UHCA’s umbrella model supports groups like the Garden Club and Arts Association, enabling growth without reinventing infrastructure.
UH Wears Its Pride Colors
University Heights lives Pride year-round: home to Diversionary Theatre and Lambda Archives, abundant rainbow flags, LGBTQ-owned shops, and welcoming neighbors. Residents celebrate visible community life on Park Boulevard; visitors are invited to stroll in July, say hello, and spend at businesses flying the colors.
UH Community Spirit & the Mechanics of Making UH News Happen
UHCA President Marc Johnson celebrates the volunteer team behind Party on Park 2026 and goes behind the scenes on how UH News comes together each month. A commitment to transparency ensures the neighborhood's voice stays authentically human.
