Happenings at Roosevelt: March 2026 Updates

SDUSD Strike Averted 

The strike scheduled for February 26 was called off after the District and unions came to an agreement . The strike was over expanded staff to support to students with special education needs in classrooms K-12. Teachers were demanding adequate resources for the benefit of all students across a continuum of learning profiles. 

SANDAG Survey for Parents of Students at Roosevelt 

Roosevelt and SANDAG are collaborating to collect detailed information about the commutes by families of students at Roosevelt Middle School. If you have a student at Roosevelt, please take some time to provide data about your commute to drop off and pick up your Roosevelt students. Volunteers Needed for Roosevelt’s Thrift Store 

Roosevelt is recruiting parents to operate the Roosevelt Thrift Store. The store operates during school lunch hours. You can help support your student’s school by operating the Roosevelt Thrift Store and help raise funds and provide students with access to affordable clothes and other provisions. International Baccalaureate Awards 

Roosevelt recently celebrated students for their excellent contributions to the classroom and community. Each semester there are I.B. Awards for students who demonstrate valuable learning attributes. The aim of Roosevelt’s IB program is to develop internationally minded citizens with an appreciation for our common humanity and planet, and with an interest in building a more peaceful world. On January 20, 2026, students received awards for the following categories: 

Inquirers – nurture curiosity 

Open minded – appreciate cultures and personal histories 

Knowledgable – use conceptual understanding to explore knowledge 

Caring – show empathy, compassion, and respect 

Communicators – express confidence and creativity in multiple languages 

Risk-takers – work independently and cooperatively 

Thinkers – use critical and creative thinking to analyze complex problems 

Balanced – balance intellectual, physical, and emotional parts of yourself 

Principled – act with integrity, honesty and strong sense of fairness and justice 

Reflective – consider the world, ideas an experiences thoughtfully
