Making Connections in University Heights

One of the things I value most about University Heights is the way connectivity shows up in everyday life. While technology certainly plays a role in keeping us informed and engaged, the true strength of our community lies in how connected we are to one another. It was on display recently when so many people came through to break our record donating to families in need through the Birney Giving Tree. It’s showcased in our regular Upgrade Someone’s Day (see page 12). And there’s a great example in this issue (see page 10) where neighbors banded together to help ‘one of our own’ longtime UH residents when he and his much-loved pup needed it most.

University Heights is a neighbor-hood built for interaction. Our walkable streets, shared spaces, and gathering spots naturally bring people together. A simple walk through the neighborhood often turns into a conversation, a shared laugh, meeting a new dog, or a moment of connection that reminds me how closely knit this community really is. These interactions may seem small, but collectively they form the foundation of trust and belonging that defines UH.

Our local businesses are another powerful connector. They serve not only as economic anchors but also as community hubs—places where ideas are exchanged, relationships are built, and neighbors feel welcome. Supporting these businesses strengthens more than our local economy; it reinforces the bonds that keep University Heights vibrant.

Information flows quickly here because people are curious and care, and we have so many awesome vehicles for communicating: UH News, the UHCA email list, our incredibly active social media, and our website. Whether it’s news about an upcoming event, a community initiative, or an opportunity to support a neighbor, residents take the time to share and stay engaged. That shared sense of responsibility helps ensure that no one feels disconnected or overlooked.

I believe our UHCA mission comes to life when we actively show up for one another. One of the best ways to strengthen our sense of connection is by participating in our many neighborhood events, attending community meetings, and staying engaged through our social media channels. These spaces—whether in person or online—give us opportunities to listen, share ideas, celebrate what makes University Heights special, and work together toward common goals.

Connectivity doesn’t happen by accident; it grows when we choose to engage, communicate, and stay involved. By participating, sharing, and inviting others to join, we help ensure University Heights remains not only informed, but welcoming, inclusive, and truly connected. Together— one conversation, one event, and one connection at a time— we are fortifying the foundation of UH and ensuring that it remains the amazing place we all chose to be a part of.
