Finding Strength Through Running with Deanna Schallau
For nearly a decade, University Heights resident Deanna Schallau has found strength, confidence, and connection through running. Her journey inspired her to create Deanna Schallau - Running & Lifestyle Coaching, a practice designed to make running accessible to everyone, no matter their pace or experience level.
“I’ve seen how uplifting and encouraging the running community can be,” Schallau shares. “But I’ve also seen how intimidating it can feel. I want people to know running is for them, too.”
Schallau offers one-on-one coaching programs ranging from three to six months, tailored for those just starting out, getting back into the sport, or looking to deepen their routine. Her focus is on empowering clients to feel strong, resilient, and proud. One client, for example, overcame the belief that walking made her “less of a runner.”
Together, they built a run-walk program that transformed her mindset and helped her achieve milestones she never thought possible—progress so inspiring that even her partner has started running alongside her.
Beyond training plans, Schallau’s coaching emphasizes the mental breakthroughs that running can spark. She believes running is not about comparing yourself to others, but about embracing your own unique journey.
What Schallau values most is the neighborhood she calls home. “University Heights truly is a community like no other,” she says. “The support and belonging here motivate me to give back.” This fall, she’ll be leading a University Heights 5K/10K training group beginning October 13th, open to all levels and especially welcoming to beginners.
