The UH community takes holiday lights very seriously... and UH Lights in the Heights makes it easy to show off your unique flair, and easier for folks to find your creative brilliance and vote on the best decorated homes! As in previous years, this is a community-wide effort with neighbors both decorating their places and voting.
Important Dates:
Nominations must be registered (you can nominate your own home or a neighbors!) by Sunday December 7 at midnight.
Nominations will be confirmed by email starting December 8 and the first 50 nominations will receive a yard sign with a QR code (pick-up details will be included in the confirmation email).
Map will be posted here on Wednesday, December 10 before 5pm and voting will also begin here and via the QR codes on yard signs
Voting will close on Saturday, December 20th at midnight.
Winners will be announced on December 22 here, via social media, and will be published in the February UH News.
Voting for your Favorites!
This year we are putting extra emphasis on blocks or groups working together (think New York Street with the painted signs, Louisiana Street). So in addition to winners and runners-up by category, we will track blocks and groups of homes nearby and award “Best Blocks” as well as overall winners:
Categories
Each vote will count towards one of these categories:
Best Traditional Theme: classic Christmas look with lights, wreaths, etc.
Best Modern Theme: stylish, creative, or trendy designs
Best Use of Lights: focus on lighting display and color coordination
Best Religious Display: nativity scene or faith-based theme
Best Inflatable Display: use of large inflatables and characters
Most Creative / Original: unique, funny, or unexpected theme
Bonus Categories
In addition to the categories above, each vote can add one or both of these “bonus” categories:
Best Overall: top decoration combining creativity, lights, and theme, the most outstanding display in design, execution, and holiday spirit
Children’s Choice Award: voted favorite by kids
We can’t wait to see our neighborhood lit up! No matter how much or little you have to display, every little twinkle helps make our whole neighborhood shine brighter - and can help your block stand out. Thanks - and good luck!
