New Program Recognizing UH Folks Who Make a Difference
In a world that can often feel heavy with headlines and hurried days, there’s something profoundly healing about the small moments that remind us of the good that still exists around us. The smile from a barista who remembers your order. The neighbor who helps you carry groceries up your stairs. The friend who checks in just because. These are the everyday acts of kindness that (whether we realize it or not) upgrade someone’s day.
That’s what inspired the “Be the UPGRADE of Someone’s Day” initiative. As a chiropractor, I see firsthand how much a person’s physical and emotional wellbeing are connected. Sometimes what people need most isn’t an adjustment of the spine, but an adjustment of the heart. A simple reminder that kindness still matters and that community care is alive and well in University Heights.
I reached out to UHCA to put this program into action for our community. “We hope this spurs other businesses to get involved so we can make this an ongoing way to shine light on some of the goodness in the UH community,” said UHCA President Marc Johnson. “Our Plume awards are focused on recognizing UHCA volunteers who give so much back to our community. This new program is a way to recognize random and oftentimes unnoticed acts of kindness.
Each month, we want to recognize a local hero who has made someone’s day a little brighter. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture; in fact, it rarely is. Maybe it’s the dog walker who always waves, the server who makes you laugh after a long day, or the teacher who goes the extra mile. If someone has uplifted your spirit (even in the smallest way), we want to hear about it.
When you see an act of kindness, let us know by nominating that person at www.uhsd.org/upgrade or by scanning the QR.
A committee of myself and UHCA board members will review the nominations and identify ones that we feel represent the best of our community. We will promote them (anonymously if you wish) in the paper, on social media, and some will receive additional recognition in the form of a free “Body UPGRADE” service from my office, a well deserved moment of self-care, or other awards that are donated.
Your participation by nominating or contributing will help grow this movement of kindness throughout our neighborhood. Because when one person chooses to uplift another, it creates a ripple that touches us all. Let’s remind our community that goodness isn’t lost, it’s just waiting to be recognized.
If you or your business want to join the initiative, please email: info@upgradechiropractic.com.
The first “Be the UPGRADE of Someone’s Day” award will be announced in the December issue. Let’s fill the next few months with stories worth celebrating and together, make University Heights a little brighter, one upgrade at a time.
