UH Library May 2026 Events: Maker Monday, Emily Dickinson, and More
The University Heights Branch Library is ready to celebrate spring! Beginning with Maker Monday on May 4 from 5 to 7 p.m., we will send you home with embellished picture frames, just in time for Mother’s Day. As that program coincides with Star Wars Day (“May the Fourth be with you!”), you can also receive a custom light saber card kit when you come into the branch that day!
On Tuesday, May 5 at 6 p.m., the innovative modernist poet Emily Dickinson will come to life, portrayed by local actor Rhianna Basore. This thrilling night is the second in our American Literary Heroes Series, a unique program highlighting four iconic American writers through performances by professional actors from Write Out Loud — all in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
Would you like to work with a contemporary artist? On the first Thursday of every month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., we host ArtQuest, a program sponsored by the Museum of Contemporary Art that features a craft based on a particular artist or medium. This innovative program is designed especially for students from third to sixth grade.
May is National Bike Month and, to celebrate, the University Heights Branch Library will once again be a pit stop for the annual SANDAG Bike Anywhere Day. Last year, we had over 143 participants, so let’s top that! Get out your bikes and helmets and cruise on by on Thursday, May 21 between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. We will be handing out coffee, bananas, donut holes, bike swag, and — of course — T-shirts!
