NPPC Election Recap and Push for Crosswalks at Three UH Intersections

Hey neighbors! As your UH-elected representatives to the North Park Planning Committee (NPPC), we’re excited to share recent updates on our work advocating for our neighborhood. Election season for the NPPC has been completed! We would like to thank all of our neighbors who participated in this year’s election. As a result of a robust outreach campaign, 20 of our neighbors decided to run as candidates and a total of 769 votes were cast! Newly elected board members will begin their 2-year terms at the April General Meeting.

Over the past two months, we’ve requested that the city install crosswalks and stop signs at the following intersections in response to petitions that we received from UH and North Park neighbors: Madison Ave. & Idaho St., Polk Ave. & Ohio St., and Monroe Ave. & Mississippi St. These requests are intended to improve pedestrian safety near nearby schools, address safety concerns related to increased traffic and nightlife, and mitigate issues from recent area development.

We also wrote a letter to the city advocating for the North Park Planning Committee’s support for installing Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPI) at 30th Street and University Avenue. The letter also requested that LPI be installed at all “no right turn on red” intersections and become a standard feature on all new traffic signals.

Thank you for your trust and support. We appreciate your continued involvement as we work together to improve our community.

The NPPC is the City-recognized advisory group for land use, infrastructure, and street safety within the North Park Community Planning Area.

Join us! General Meetings are held every third Tuesday of the month, both virtually and in-person at: 2901 N Park Way, 2nd Floor, San Diego, CA 92104. Contact: info@northparkplanning.org
