There’s something special about discovering a coffee shop that has just opened, especially when it gets every detail right. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by beautiful art, thoughtfully curated furniture, and an atmosphere that feels both stylish and welcoming. The space has a fresh, creative energy that makes you want to slow down, take it all in, and stay a little longer. And then there’s the coffee — rich, carefully crafted, and just as impressive as the surroundings. It’s more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee; it’s an experience that inspires you, lifts your mood, and makes you excited to come back.

Check out why La Prisa Specialty Café, at 4215 Park Blvd. is the newest buzz in University Heights. It’s open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; find it online at www.cafelaprisa.com and on Instagram at @la_prisa_1. Its specialty coffee follows “La Secuencia,” its proprietary small-batch, slow-brew method inspired by traditional South American brewing styles. It’s a precise sequence of heat, timing, and purposeful pauses that lets each bean express its full character.

The specialty coffee drinks include traditional classics such as Champurrado, Tres Leche, and Aztec Gold Lattes. The menu also offers an array of artisan teas, including refreshing flavors like passion fruit, and a selection of signature pastries, with sweet and fun options such as lemon or strawberry crème Danish. The specialty pastries are from none other than longtime local bakery Bread & Cie.

Mike Reyes, the general manager who helped open the shop, is excited about La Prisa’s arrival in the University Heights neighborhood. Coming from a background in the medical field, Reyes branched out into a completely new venture: coffee!
