Volunteer Corner: Spring Events Need Your Help

The UHCA is gearing up for a fun spring with amazing events and is hard at work on other ways to support our neighborhood. I can’t emphasize enough how vital it is to have such an engaged and generous community of volunteers!

Event Support Needed 

We have some of our most beloved UH events coming up and need your help. Check out our event calendar to see the full lineup. Here is what we are looking for help with: 

Bike Tune Up Clinic--April 26th, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. We are looking for one more person to help with registration AND anyone who is good with bike tune ups. This is a free event that provides folks in the neighborhood with a chance to get their bikes fixed up. 

Party on Park —May 9th, 3-7 p.m. This is our favorite neighborhood block party. We need a whole crew of volunteers to help with everything, including set up, registration, trash, vendor support, and clean up. Volunteers get a free wristband. This will be a sold out event, so come join us and help make this a huge success.

Blockwalkers and Reserves—Routes Open 

We have two open routes for block walkers to deliver the UH News, and we need more reserves who can help us as substitutes. Do you like to walk? If you missed delivering papers as a kid, it’s not too late to enjoy the satisfaction of being in charge of your own paper route. Take a route and help us deliver the monthly paper to homes around the neighborhood. Email me if you’re interested. This is about a one-hour commitment per month. 

UH News Bundling 

Did you know that a small group of 3-4 volunteers count and bundle our newspapers every month to prepare them for our blockwalkers? We are looking for one additional person to help out. This is a daytime commitment, midday for one hour a month, and takes place at Pemberley Realty at 4645 Park Boulevard. Willingness to deliver papers in your car is a plus. 

Neighborhood Clean-Up—May 2nd 

Save the date for this Park Boulevard neighborhood clean-up on May 2nd. We need your help to get our street sparkling clean before Party on Park. More details to come. Want to help lead this event? Reach out to volunteer@ uhsd.org and let me know.

And a personal update….It has long been a dream of mine to travel the world. Last week, my husband, James, and I took the leap and will be traveling internationally for most of the year. We packed suitcases and jetted off to Asia. It’s been a busy couple of months getting ready, which is why I didn’t get an update out last month. That being said, I’ll still be helping out as a volunteer coordinator and will continue to serve on the board. I love our neighborhood and hope to continue to support our amazing community of volunteers, even while I’m not there physically.
