Together, We Live Under the Same Moon

The San Diego Buddhist Association’s Hsi Fang Temple hosted the Under the Moon Lantern Walk on Saturday Oct 4 to honor the Mid-Autumn Festival.

A cherished tradition celebrated in China and all across Asia, the Mid- Autumn Festival brings families and friends together under the full moon to give thanks and honor its light.

The traditional festival is celebrated with outdoor gatherings, lanterns, and – of course – moon cakes.

During the Saturday evening celebration, more than 200 attendees met at the temple, carrying a delightful and beautiful array of lanterns, both homemade and custom-made.

With lanterns in hand, the group strolled up Park Blvd. to Mission Cliffs, then back down North Ave. towards the temple, lighting up University Heights with a gentle, festive glow.

A very special moment came at Plumeria, the beloved vegetarian Thai restaurant located on Park Blvd., where owner Bea Alignay generously offered the group freshly fried banana treats – crispy, warm, and absolutely delicious.

The evening came to a close with the sharing of fresh mooncakes, a youth musical performance, and a blessing from the Venerable Miaozang, Abbess of Hsi-Fang Temple and the President of San Diego Buddhist Association.

The Under the Moon Lantern Walk served as a beautiful reminder that no matter where we are, all of us live under the same moon.
