North Park Planning Committee: October Updates for UH Residents

Hey neighbors!

As your University Heights–elected representatives to the North Park Planning Committee (NPPC), we’re excited to share recent updates on our work advocating for our neighborhood.

In August, the NPPC finalized the list of unfunded infrastructure needs for the City’s 2025 Capital Improvements Program based on community survey responses we received and submitted the list to the City. We plan to leave our North Park Infrastructure Priorities Survey open throughout the year to identify priorities for the next CIP funding cycle and address issues in the neighborhood through our board’s ongoing work. We encourage all UH residents to fill it out with any ideas for infrastructure improvements if you haven’t had a chance to do so already.

In response to longstanding concerns about excessive vehicle speeds on Utah Street, we submitted a letter to the City’s Transportation Department to lower the speed limit from 25 mph to 20 mph under California Assembly Bill 43. This letter also asked the city to widen the bike lane buffer along the corridor to provide protection in the door zone for people biking on Utah. These changes will make the street safer for everyone.

Finally, we supported a proposal to address deferred maintenance at the North Park Water Tower and transform it into a symbol of community identity with a thoughtfully designed mural or artistic theme. Funding sources still need to be identified but could either come from CIP allocations or support from community organizations.

Thank you for your trust and support. We appreciate your continued involvement as we work together to improve our community.

The NPPC is the City-recognized advisory group for land use, infrastructure, and street safety within the North Park Community Planning Area.

Join us! General Meetings are held every third Tuesday of the month, both virtually and in-person at: 2901 N Park Way, 2nd Floor, San Diego, CA 92104.
