Historic Craftsman Home to Be Replaced by Apartments

The craftsman home at 1526 Meade Ave is slated to be torn down. The existing structure dates back to the late 1800 and is in the Queen Ann Free Classic Style. It is ½ block west of Birney Elementary School. Permits are being reviewed by the Development Services Department to demolish the structure and replace it with a 5-Story 19-Unit apartment building.

Initial application describes it having 1 level of enclosed parking, 4 levels of apartments and a rooftop terrace. The apartment building will have an unspecified number of affordable units.

The normal maximum height for this area is 30 ft, approximately 3 stories. The project is able to be 5-Stories because it uses the cities Complete Communities Program. The Complete Communities program allows for higher and more dense projects near transit throughout the Uptown and North Park area if affordable units are included.

No word yet as to the number of parking spaces that will be provided in the first level enclosure. As no presentations to or approvals from community planning groups are required any longer, there are no plans to share... so we let our AI engine get creative to show what such a building could look like...
