Be the UPGRADE of Someone's Day: Celebrating Community Kindness in UH

Every day, people in University Heights do small things that make a big difference—gestures so simple they often go unnoticed, yet powerful enough to change someone’s entire day. Be the UPGRADE of Someone’s Day was created to recognize those moments of kindness and connection that make our neighborhood feel like home.

It’s often the gentle, everyday gestures that transform someone’s day. When you lift even one person up with warmth and consideration, the ripple of kindness extends outward—touching others, inspiring hope, and sparking connection. In this December/January issue, we shine a light on two extraordinary neighbors, Javier and Annamarie, whose thoughtful presence enriches the heart of University Heights. Their example reminds us that making someone’s day better doesn’t require grand gestures—just a genuine heart and a simple act.

Javier at Parkhouse Café

If you’ve ever eaten at Parkhouse, you already know Javier. He’s the “everything” guy—part server, part chef, part problem-solver, and somehow all heart. No matter how busy it gets, Javier always takes a moment to make a genuine connection. He greets you with a smile that feels like sunshine and has a way of making every guest feel like the most important person in the room. His energy fills the space with warmth and care, turning an ordinary meal into something memorable.

Next time you stop by Parkhouse, take a moment to say hello and thank him. He truly embodies what it means to upgrade someone’s day—one smile, one table, one person at a time.

Annamarie at TapRoom Coffee Shop

Annamarie is the kind of person who makes you believe in good mornings again. She remembers your name, your order, and even the small details you mentioned during your last visit. She turns a simple coffee run into a moment of joy and connection. Her kindness feels effortless, her energy is bright, and her presence has become a daily highlight for so many neighbors.

If you see her behind the counter, be sure to say hi and let her know how much her kindness means. She’s a reminder that something as small as remembering a name can make someone feel seen and valued.

About the Program

Be the UPGRADE of Someone’s Day is brought to you by Dr. Jeremy Gaynier of UPGRADE Chiropractic and UHCA, who believe kindness is contagious and that community care starts with noticing the good around us. Each issue, the individuals we highlight will receive a complimentary body treatment at UPGRADE Chiropractic as a small way of saying thank you for making our neighborhood brighter.
