The $100 Breakfast: Make Someone's Day with an Act of Generosity
Several years ago, I read an article about a group of 15 to 20 friends who gather every year in December for breakfast. While this in itself isn’t a newsworthy story, what caught my attention was that at the end of the meal, every guest left a $100 bill as a tip for the unsuspecting server.
During the pandemic, I contacted some friends and relatives to see if they’d be interested in joining my wife and me for a similar breakfast, and over the past five years, a group of 8-10 of us have done just that. At the end of the meal when the check comes, we’ll tuck it and the money inside of a Thank You greeting card and hand it to our server. The responses we received have ranged from tears to astonishment and disbelief.
There’s always something special about receiving an unexpected windfall of money, but there is also something nice about being on the giving end. This holiday season, or any time of year, get together with friends and family and start your own $100 Breakfast tradition. Happy Holidays.
