A Bit of UH Fun on the High Seas

In mid-May, while waiting for my flight at the San Diego airport on my way to Rome for a long-awaited trip to Italy and Croatia, I noticed two gentlemen in the waiting area. One had an extraordinary manicure with enviable bright red polish.

Fast forward to several days later when I embarked upon Celebrity’s Constellation ship and saw the same two gentlemen. I struck up a conversation and said I had noticed them in the airport in San Diego. As we introduced ourselves, I learned they too called University Heights home. As we talked more, I realized that I had met Gary Williams almost two years ago delivering the UH News as he is one of our dedicated UH News distributor volunteers. He and his partner Jon Von Erb — the UH Poet Laureate — who I had spoken to several times on the phone were on a celebratory anniversary cruise. It took going halfway around the world to get to know these wonderful UH Neighbors. What a small world indeed!

We ran into one another on the ship every day, arranged to meet for cocktails one night before dinner, and met up again while exploring Dubrovnik.

I guess it is true: “You can take the person out of University Heights, but you can’t take University Heights out of the person!”

Happy trails wherever your travels take you, and enjoy those you meet along the way.
