Critters Cajun/ Zydeco & Mardi Gras
Billy Lee & The Swamp Critters is a band that specializes in danceable
good-time Louisiana-style Cajun, Zydeco and Mardi Gras
music. Instruments include accordion, fiddle, rubboard, bass,
guitar, drums with Trombone added on special occasions. Billy
Lee was raised in the Cajun Triangle and although he plays
traditional Cajun and Zydeco music, sung in Cajun French,
he also writes original songs with a blend of boogie woogie,
doo wop, and Texas Swing. Billy is an active board member of
the Bon Temps Social Club, which supports music native to
Louisiana and sponsors live bands from that state each month
in Balboa Park – where Billy is the host and dance teacher. So
get ready to really dance up a storm when The Swamp Critters start to play on July 18th!
July 17, 2009 Joe Rathburn's
Island Trop Rock Soca, Reggae & Calypso
Kokonut Joe, the alter ego of San Diego based singer/songwriter Joe Rathburn, has performed in Key West for the annual “Meeting of the Minds” Parrot Head convention. “Parrot Heads” are to Jimmy Buffett, what Dead Heads were to the Grateful Dead. The twist here however is that Rathburn was not asked to come and play Buffett covers as one would expect, but to perform his own songs from his two Betterworld Records CDs, 1997’s Little Suns, and 2001’s Rockwells and Picassos.
July 24, 2009 The Rhythm Jacks Rhythm & Blues,
Rock ‘n’ Roll & Jazz
Based out of San Diego, The Rhythm Jacks play an intriguing repertoire of unusual Rhythm & Blues, traditional Blues, Vintage Rock 'n' Roll and Jazz. The Rhythm Jacks love playing driving grooves, and making people dance. You'll hear songs the other groups just don't play spiced up with smoking slide guitar and dynamite sax lines. The Rhythm Jacks combine a dozen original songs with a collection of gems from artists like Howlin Wolf, Mose Allison, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, Little Feat, Ry Cooder, Robert Johnson, Little Richard, Albert King, and Johnny Winter.

The Midili Brothers Band Classic Rock 50s – 80s
The Midili Brothers Band is a Classic Rock cover band, playing hits
from the 50s to the 80s, from Doo Wop and R&B to the classic rock
sounds of the 70s and 80s. Band Members are brothers, Joe and
John Midili, who have been involved in music their whole lives
and have recorded several original songs for a CD entitled “Look
What We Did!!!” John was also involved in a Beatles tribute
band during 2001-2002 called “The Bootles”, Fred Binczewski is
the keyboardist extraordinaire with over 30 years experience at
venues throughout the country; Gary Yergens is the dynamite
bassist and vocalist who has been playing the Southern California
music scene for 25 years; and Darrell Keliinoi is the hard working drummer with phenomenal vocal range. Let’s take
a trip into the history of rock and roll, listening to the song selections and four part harmonies of The Midili
Brothers Band when they join us at the Trolley
Barn concerts on July 25th!!
Sue Palmer & Her Motel Swing Orchestra have graced the San
Diego music scene for more than two decades and are
renowned for their highly energetic shows. They continually
receive rave reviews for their live performances, as certainly
indicated by the large audiences that attend their many years
of performing at the Trolley Barn Park Concerts. Sue’s band
plays a wonderful combination of swing, blues, New Orleans,
and boogie woogie styles. Let’s face it, no one quite plays the
piano with the verve and versatility of Sue Palmer. Sue’s
“Sophisticated Ladies” CD won the best self-produced CD at
the International Blues Challenge in February of this year. To
honor Sue, Councilmember Toni Atkins proclaimed March 25,
2008 Sue Palmer Day in San Diego. Always a favorite, Sue
will close this year’s Concert Series on August 8th with a blast
of great music and fun.
